Everton go to Leeds tonight after a shocking performance at the weekend which resulted in a 0-2 defeat to Newcastle.
A performance at the weekend that Carlo Ancelotti described as “lazy”. It lacked energy, commitment and the will to be competitive, competitiveness that the manager demands his squad attain.
There will be changes tonight.
In his press conference prior to tonight’s game, Ancelotti confirmed that Robin Olsen will be in goal for tonight’s game at Leeds, due to a side injury Jordan Pickford sustained during the Newcastle game.
I expect to see changes at the back and I personally would like to see Mason Holgate replace Seamus Coleman at right-back, joining Keane, Mina and Digne in a back four.
Following the limp performance in midfield against Newcastle, I would play Godfrey, Davies and Doucouré in a three man midfield.
Hopefully, that would free up Doucouré to express himself more in a box-to-box role.
James, Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison as a front three.
The signing of Josh King will hopefully instill in Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison a greater focus and urgency. Given that King brings more real competition for starting places in the forward line.
It must have been difficult having virtually no competition for the starting positions up front prior to Josh King’s arrival.
Maybe that competition for starts against Manchester United next weekend, could be a key motivating factor in tonight’s game. COYB
